Highly translucent nanostructured glass-ceramic

Dielectric properties of CaO-B2O3-SiO2 glass-ceramic systems in the millimeter-wave frequency range of 20-60 GHz

Summary: The as-quenched melts of three CaO-B2O3-SiO2 compositions were investigated for their dielectric and structural properties. The CBS-1 glass-ceramic exhibited the lowest CTE, dielectric constant, and highest dielectric loss attributed to the presence of quartz, while CBS-2 and CBS-3 presented relatively high CTEs and dielectric constants due to beta-CaSiO3 as the major phase. The increase in CaO content led to the relaxation of the structure and low thermal conductivity in CBS-2 and CBS-3.

Effects of high-temperature treatment and iron reduction index on tensile strength of basalt continuous fiber

Summary: Iron plays a crucial role in enhancing the tensile strength of basalt fibers (BFs), with fibers having higher iron reduction indices (IRI) showing better performance after high-temperature treatment. The formation of nanocrystalline layers on the surface of BFs with higher IRIs contributes to their improved tensile strength. On the other hand, BFs with lower IRIs form more ferric tetrahedral structures after high-temperature treatment, leading to decreased tensile strength due to depolymerization of Si(Al)-O-Si(Al) tetrahedral structures.

Microstructure and ion-exchange properties of glass-ceramics containing ZnAl2O4 and β-quartz solid solution nanocrystals

Summary: The crystallization of glass has a significant impact on the microstructure and ion-exchange properties of transparent glass-ceramics. Through sequential crystallization of ZnAl2O4 and beta-quartz solid solution nanocrystals, the glass-ceramics show smaller grain size, more uniform structure, and higher transparency. The ion-exchange depth increases significantly after crystallization, as the content of zinc and five coordinated aluminum in the residual glass matrix decreases.
