Abrasive Waterjet (AWJ) Forces-Indicator of Cutting System Malfunction

Libor M. Hlavac et al.

Summary: This paper introduces an experimental method for evaluating the quality of abrasive waterjet (AWJ) cutting by measuring forces during the process, showing the potential for improving theoretical and empirical models. The force measuring device developed by the team has been used on various metal materials, demonstrating the importance of force data in understanding the interaction between the abrasive jet and the material. Additionally, force measurements can detect undesirable effects and may be applied for online monitoring and continuous control of the cutting process.
