Development of antibacterial and UV protective cotton fabrics using plant food waste and alien invasive plant extracts as reducing agents for the in-situ synthesis of silver nanoparticles

Summary: Developing cellulose-based textiles functionalised with silver nanoparticles synthesized through a green approach is important for UV radiation and bacteria protection. Different plant extracts as reducing agents influenced the synthesis of AgNP on cotton, with the best UV protection achieved using Japanese knotweed rhizome extract. Regardless of the reducing agent, all cotton samples showed excellent protection against bacteria and UV radiation.
