Modelling for cost and productivity optimisation in sustainable manufacturing: a case of dry versus wet machining of mould steels

Oluwole Olufayo et al.

Summary: This study compared the optimal machinability conditions for four commonly used industrial mould steels under dry and wet machining. It found that dry machining can increase productivity and reduce total costs under optimal conditions, while the use of lubrication in wet milling operations can increase costs. Overall costs are more sensitive to the influence of lubrication compared to tool usage and inventory costs.
