Afucosylated IgG characterizes enveloped viral responses and correlates with COVID-19 severity

Mads Delbo Larsen et al.

Summary: This study reveals that afucosylated IgG antibodies are specifically formed against enveloped viruses, but not generally against other antigens. These antibodies enhance Fc gamma RIIIa responses, but also exacerbate cytokine storms and immune-mediated pathologies.

Appropriate aglycone modification significantly expands the glycan substrate acceptability of α1,6-fucosyltransferase (FUT8)

Roushu Zhang et al.

Summary: The study revealed that FUT8 could core-fucosylate various N-glycoproteins in appropriate protein contexts, even without the essential GlcNAc moiety in specific locations. Additionally, it was found that sialylation of N-glycans significantly reduced their activity as a substrate of FUT8, while modification with Fmoc aglycone could enhance the efficiency of FUT8 catalyzed fucosylation.

Hyper-truncated Asn355-and Asn391-glycans modulate the activity of neutrophil granule myeloperoxidase

Harry C. Tjondro et al.

Summary: This study revealed the relationship between the glycan structure and activity of neutrophil MPO, highlighting the important role of glycans in neutrophil-mediated immunity. While global MPO glycosylation was similar across different conditions, differences were observed at specific sites which may influence the enzyme activity of MPO. By studying different types of granulocytes, it was found that MPO is dynamically expressed during granulopoiesis and degranulated upon activation.
