Wenshuo Hu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the redox mechanism of Low-Temperature SCR on Cu-CHA using various techniques, proposing a Cu-II pair mediated pathway for the reduction half-cycle, challenging previous mechanistic proposals based on isolated Cu-II ions. The results highlight the important role of dinuclear Cu complexes in both oxidation and reduction reactions of Low-Temperature SCR.

Regulation of Al distributions and Cu2+ locations in SSZ-13 zeolites for NH3-SCR of NO by different alkali metal cations

Wenting Lv et al.

Summary: Different types of alkali metal cations were used to synthesize SSZ-13, and the Al distribution and Cu2+ locations in the framework were investigated using various techniques. It was found that with decreasing cation radii, the number of AlO4- tetrahedra and isolated Cu2+ species in SSZ-13 increased, leading to enhanced NH3-SCR catalytic performance.

Chemical gradients in automotive Cu-SSZ-13 catalysts for NOx removal revealed by operando X-ray spectrotomography

Johannes Becher et al.

Summary: This study combined operando X-ray absorption spectroscopy with microtomography to perform three-dimensional chemical imaging of copper species in a Cu-SSZ-13 monolith catalyst during NOx reduction. The results showed gradients in copper oxidation state and coordination environment at micrometre spatial resolution, revealing the interplay of NOx reduction with adsorption-desorption of NH3 and mass transport phenomena, while simultaneously determining catalytic performance. The use of operando X-ray spectrotomography proved useful in direct three-dimensional visualization of complex reactions on non-model catalysts, improving understanding of structure-activity relationships and observing mass and heat transport effects.

The Role of H+- and Cu+-Sites for N2O Formation during NH3-SCR over Cu-CHA

Yingxin Feng et al.

Summary: The formation of N2O over CHA and Cu-CHA zeolite catalysts during NH3-SCR is found to be connected with NO + NH3 reaction over Cu-sites, rather than direct NH4NO3 decomposition. This finding provides an explanation for the experimentally observed low-temperature N2O formation and the relation between Cu loading and N2O formation. These proposed mechanisms offer strategies to enhance the selectivity to N-2 during NH3-SCR.

Simple physical mixing of zeolite prevents sulfur deactivation of vanadia catalysts for NOx removal

Inhak Song et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that physically mixed H-Y zeolite can protect vanadium active sites effectively by trapping ABS in micropores, enabling the catalyst to operate stably at low temperatures and maintaining sulfur resistance during repeated aging/regeneration cycles. The pore structure and framework Al content of different zeolites play a crucial role in determining the trapping ability.

Mobility of Cu Ions in Cu-SSZ-13 Determines the Reactivity of Selective Catalytic Reduction of NOx with NH3

Hwangho Lee et al.

Summary: The study aims to reveal the mobility-dependent SCR reaction by controlling Cu species with different ion mobilities in Cu-SSZ-13. The results indicate that enhanced ion mobility leads to improved NH3-SCR activity, providing insights for designing rational catalysts by tuning ion mobility.

Transient Kinetic Analysis of Low-Temperature NH3-SCR over Cu-CHA Catalysts Reveals a Quadratic Dependence of Cu Reduction Rates on CuII

Federica Gramigni et al.

Summary: NO and NH3 can readily reduce CuII at low temperatures according to a 1:1:1:1 stoichiometry over Cu-CHA catalysts. The reduction rates of Cu-II show a quadratic dependence on Cu-II, suggesting a dinuclear-Cu-II mediated RHC pathway. Water significantly inhibits the Cu-II reduction rate in the reaction cascade.
