Ultrathin Ga2O3 Glass: A Large-Scale Passivation and Protection Material for Monolayer WS2

Matthias Wurdack et al.

Summary: Atomically thin transition metal dichalcogenide crystals have exceptional optical properties. Encapsulation of these crystals in ultrathin Ga2O3 glass can enhance their optical performance and protect them from further material deposition. Ga2O3 is highly suitable for large-scale passivation and protection of monolayer TMDCs in functional heterostructures.

Influence of direct deposition of dielectric materials on the optical response of monolayer WS2

Tinghe Yun et al.

Summary: The effects of direct deposition of different dielectric materials onto atomically thin TMDC WS2 were investigated using various deposition methods. After deposition, the excitonic emission was found to be suppressed, mainly due to increased charge doping levels, lattice disorder, and defects. Electron beam evaporation resulted in the lowest doping and defect densities, while sputtering was the most aggressive dielectric capping method for WS2.

Micro-mechanical assembly and characterization of high-quality Fabry-Perot microcavities for the integration of two-dimensional materials

Christoph Rupprecht et al.

Summary: A new technique has been developed for micro-mechanically assembling Fabry-Perot microcavities, promoting strong coupling conditions with excitons in atomically thin materials without relying on difficult or expensive technologies. The approach is reproducible and yields microcavities with quality factors approaching 4000, making it suitable for engineering coupled monolayer-cavity systems in small-scale laboratories.

Ultralow Threshold Polariton Condensate in a Monolayer Semiconductor Microcavity at Room Temperature

Jiaxin Zhao et al.

Summary: This study reports the realization of polariton lasing in a TMD microcavity at room temperature for the first time, showing evidence of continuous wave pumped polariton lasing through macroscopic occupation of the ground state, emergence of temporal coherence, presence of an exciton fraction-controlled threshold, and buildup of linear polarization. This work represents a critical step towards utilizing nonlinear polariton-polariton interactions and providing a new platform for thresholdless lasing.

Bosonic condensation of exciton-polaritons in an atomically thin crystal

Carlos Anton-Solanas et al.

Summary: The emergence of two-dimensional crystals has sparked research activity in solid-state physics, specifically in the area of enhanced charge carrier correlations. Compelling evidence of bosonic condensation and the observation of spatially extended condensate have been found, furthering the development of coherent light sources and valleytronic devices based on atomically thin crystals.
