Dose-response effect of a large-scale greenway intervention on physical activities: The first natural experimental study in China

Bo Xie et al.

Summary: Using a natural experimental approach, this study explored the impact of the East Lake greenway intervention on physical activity in Wuhan, China. Results showed that the greenway intervention had positive effects on both moderate-to-vigorous physical activity and overall physical activity, with benefits decreasing as distance from the greenway to residences increased. Individuals living closer to the greenway accrued more substantial physical activity benefits.

Neighborhood Built Environment and Late-Life Depression: A Multilevel Path Analysis in a Chinese Society

Shiyu Lu et al.

Summary: The study found that urban greenness and the number of commercial facilities in the neighborhood were directly related to late-life depression. Social activities played a mediating role in the relationship with depressive symptoms within a 200-meter buffer, while functional ability acted as a mediator within a 500-meter buffer.

Summary: The study findings suggest that perceived built environment and sense of community influence the relationship between residential density and subjective wellbeing, while a U-shaped relationship was found between street connectivity and mental health. Park-based green space and land use mix have positive effects on mental health and subjective wellbeing, with vegetation-based green space negatively impacting subjective wellbeing.
