Sustainable Dyeing of Wool Fabric Using Kermes Oak (Quercus Coccifera L) as Source of Natural Colorant

Noureddine Baaka

Summary: This study focused on extracting natural colorant from kermes oak fruits and applying the extracted dye on wool fibers with different mordants. The effects of dyeing time, dye bath temperature, and mordant type on dyeing quality were investigated. The results showed that mordanting deepened the color shades and enhanced the fastness properties.

RSM Optimization of Wool Dyeing withBerberis ThunbergiiDC Leaves as a New Source of Natural Dye

Aminoddin Haji et al.

Summary: This study optimized the dyeing parameters for wool using Berberis thunbergii DC leaves as a natural dye source, aiming to introduce a new sustainable coloration process. The results showed that increasing dye concentration and dyebath temperature increased color strength (K/S), while increasing dyebath pH and mordant concentration decreased K/S. The optimal pH, dye concentration, dyeing temperature, and mordant concentration for achieving the highest K/S were 5, 146%owf, 76°C, and 3.8%owf, respectively. The samples dyed under the optimal conditions exhibited good color fastness properties.

Examination of Dyeing Properties on Silk of Some Flavonoids by Spectroscopic Techniques

Ozan Deveoglu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the dyeing of silk fabrics with various concentrations of alum mordant and different flavonoids. The results showed that the best color values were achieved with a 6% alum mordant. Characterization of amino acids in silk, binding to fibroin protein, and coordination numbers of Al (III) ions in the complexes formed were conducted using various spectroscopic techniques.

Sustainable plant-based bioactive materials for functional printed textiles

Alka Madhukar Thakker et al.

Summary: The paper highlights the increasing awareness of the carcinogenic effects of synthetic textile dyes, as well as the potential for ancient biomaterial engineering with herbal colorants to address modern ecological crises. Natural dyes are discussed for their ability to combat UV radiation and microorganisms, as well as the medicinal properties they possess. The overview aims to push the textile industry towards slow technology and slow fashion, encouraging a more sustainable approach for radical change.
