First report of the infectious spleen and kidney necrosis virus (ISKNV) infection in ornamental fishes in India

S. K. Girisha et al.

Summary: The first report of Infectious spleen and kidney necrosis virus (ISKNV) infection in India is documented, showing a high sequence similarity with documented isolates from different countries. The study suggests a potential high risk of spread of ISKNV in ornamental fish populations in India. Proper biosecurity measures are essential to control the emerging pathogens.

First detection of infectious spleen and kidney necrosis virus (ISKNV) associated with massive mortalities in farmed tilapia in Africa

Jose Gustavo Ramirez-Paredes et al.

Summary: The study identified ISKNV as the primary cause of fish mortality in tilapia aquaculture farms around Lake Volta in Ghana, with the disease being endemic by July 2019. Additionally, the absence of TiLV and nodavirus in the samples suggests a different disease mechanism.

Complete genome analysis of a red seabream iridovirus (RSIV) isolated from Asian seabass (Lates calcarifer) in India

T. G. Puneeth et al.

Summary: This study reported the first case of RSIV infection in India, leading to mass mortalities of Asian seabass, Lates calcarifer. The complete genome of RSIV-LC was found to be 111,557 bp in size with 38 predicted functional proteins and 26 core genes homologous to iridovirus complete genomes. Phylogenetic analysis revealed RSIV-LC to belong to the Megalocytivirus genus of RSIV-Genotype II.

Pathogenicity and histopathology of infectious spleen and kidney necrosis virus genotype II (ISKNV-II) recovering from mass mortality of farmed Asian seabass, Lates calcarifer, in Southern China

Zhiming Zhu et al.

Summary: This study provides detailed evidence confirming that ISKNV-II is the causative agent of severe diseases in farmed Asian seabass in mainland China. The research contributes to the pathogenic and epidemiological studies of Asian seabass iridovirus disease in mainland China and other Asian countries and regions. Various detection methods such as histopathology, immunohistochemistry, and transmission electron microscope were used to identify abnormal enlarged cells and viral particles in infected tissues.

A chromosome-level genome assembly of the yellowfin seabream (Acanthopagrus latus; Hottuyn, 1782) provides insights into its osmoregulation and sex reversal

Ke-Cheng Zhu et al.

Summary: This study presents a chromosome level reference genome of the yellowfin seabream using PacBio single molecule sequencing and Hi-C technologies. The assembly is of high integrity and includes 92.23% universal singlecopy orthologues, with 732 Mb scaffolds anchored on 24 chromosomes and 19631 functionally annotated protein-coding genes. The study also found an expansion of gene families related to osmoregulation and identified genes involved in sex differentiation and development through sex-specific transcriptome analyses.
