Microscopic contact pressure and material removal modeling in rail grinding using abrasive belt

Summary: A new rail grinding method using abrasive belt has been proposed to achieve required geometric profile and surface quality efficiently. Microscopic contact pressure model and material removal quantity numerical model were developed to reveal the influence of abrasive grits' surface topography on the grinding process. Finite element simulations and grinding tests confirmed the theoretical models proposed in the study.
