Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in sediments of the amazon coast: Evidence for localized sources in contrast to massive regional biomass burning

Nikola Pichler et al.

Summary: This study analyzed individual PAHs in sediments of the Oyapock estuary in the Amazon coastal zone, providing insights into their distribution and sources. Results indicated that most PAHs were derived from combustion processes, with localized inputs from oil and natural sources also being observed.

Geographical distribution of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in estuarine sediments over China: Human impacts and source apportionment

Ye Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated the geographical distribution of PAHs in estuarine sediments along different latitudes in China, using a compound-specific carbon isotope approach to characterize the sources of PAHs. It was found that human activities significantly impact PAHs pollution in estuaries, with coal processing and biomass combustion being identified as the main sources of PAHs.
