Production of high-performance lead(II) ions adsorbents from pea peels waste as a sustainable resource

Viktoriia Novoseltseva et al.

Summary: This research focuses on the development of a highly efficient, selective, low-cost, and recyclable adsorbent for fast removal of lead (Pb)(II) ions from aqueous solutions, by utilizing pea peels waste. The study demonstrates that biochar prepared from pea peels shows high adsorption capacity for Pb(II) ions and selective removal in the presence of zinc(II) and cadmium(II) ions. This suggests potential applications of such materials in water remediation.

Activated biochar derived from peanut shells as the electrode materials with excellent performance in Zinc-air battery and supercapacitance

Yu Qiao et al.

Summary: The activated biochar material prepared from peanut shells by pyrolysis in molten KCl and heat-treatment exhibits excellent catalytic activity comparable to commercial Pt/C, and shows outstanding supercapacitance performance. PS-800-1000-based zinc-air battery displays higher peak power density, specific capacity, and cycling stability than Pt/C-based ZAB, indicating its potential as a promising candidate for replacing precious metals in energy conversion/storage devices.

Potentials of sustainable electricity production from sawdust by small-scale wood transformation units: a case study in Cameroon

Kewir Fannyuy Veeyee et al.

Summary: The study investigates the possibility of using sawdust generated by wood transformation units in Cameroon for electricity generation through a gasification process. Both qualitative and quantitative methods are used to quantify the sawdust production and evaluate the feasibility of electricity generation. The results show that small-scale wood processing units in Yaounde can potentially become energy autonomous by generating electricity from syngas produced from wood waste.
