Normothermic kidney perfusion: An overview of protocols and strategies

Summary: Normothermic machine perfusion (NMP) technologies are becoming important adjuncts in organ preservation and transplantation, allowing for pretransplant assessment of organ function and metabolic status. The key requirement of NMP is to provide a protective environment for the organ, ensure optimal oxygen delivery, and support metabolic function. While there is no clear consensus on perfusion protocols, a period of NMP after hypothermic preservation is the most commonly used strategy.
