Commercial Serology Assays Predict Neutralization Activity against SARS-CoV-2

Raymond T. Suhandynata et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that three clinical serology assays positively correlate with SARS-CoV-2 neutralization activity observed in patients with COVID-19. All patients confirmed to be SARS-CoV-2 positive by PCR develop neutralizing antibodies. The agreement between the Diazyme IgG assay alone and the neutralization assay is 50.6%, while combining the Diazyme IgG assay with either the Roche or Abbott platforms increased the agreement to 79.2% and 78.4%, respectively.

Evaluation of High-Throughput SARS-CoV-2 Serological Assays in a Longitudinal Cohort of Patients with Mild COVID-19: Clinical Sensitivity, Specificity, and Association with Virus Neutralization Test

Antonin Bal et al.

Summary: The study found that the Wantai Total Ab assay targeting the receptor binding domain (RBD) within the S protein showed the best sensitivity at different stages of the disease. With the exception of the Euroimmun IgA assay, all other tests had clinical specificity greater than 95%. Some commercial serological assays demonstrated better agreement with the VNT compared to others, but they cannot replace the VNT for assessing functional antibody response.

Convalescent Plasma Antibody Levels and the Risk of Death from Covid-19

M. J. Joyner et al.

Summary: This study found that higher anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibody levels in convalescent plasma were associated with a lower risk of death among patients hospitalized with Covid-19 who were not receiving mechanical ventilation. The association between antibody levels and mortality risk was moderated by mechanical ventilation status, with no significant effect seen in patients who had already received ventilation.

Human neutralizing antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 require intact Fc effector functions for optimal therapeutic protection

Emma S. Winkler et al.

Summary: This study found that neutralizing human monoclonal antibodies in SARS-CoV-2-infected animals require Fc effector functions for optimal protection, reducing inflammation, improving respiratory mechanics, and being associated with diminished immune signaling and tissue repair.

Association of Convalescent Plasma Therapy With Survival in Patients With Hematologic Cancers and COVID-19

Michael A. Thompson et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the association of convalescent plasma treatment with 30-day mortality in hospitalized adults with hematologic cancers and COVID-19. Results showed that convalescent plasma treatment was associated with improved 30-day mortality, especially in patients requiring intensive care unit admission or mechanical ventilatory support.
