Orange Peel Derived-Nitrogen and Sulfur Co-doped Carbon Dots: a Nano-booster for Enhancing ORR Electrocatalytic Performance of 3D Graphene Networks

Ceren Karaman

Summary: Nitrogen and sulfur co-doped carbon dots were synthesized using waste orange peel as a natural carbon precursor, and anchored to three-dimensional graphene networks to enhance electrocatalytic activity. The synergistic utilization of heteroatoms and interconnected 3D architecture resulted in superior oxygen reduction reaction activity in the alkaline media. This study demonstrates the potential of converting low-value agricultural wastes into value-added materials for energy applications.

Experimental design and theoretical evaluation of nitrogen and phosphorus dual-doped hierarchical porous carbon for high-performance sodium-ion storage

Chen Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, nitrogen and phosphorus co-doped porous carbon was prepared using starch and ammonium polyphosphate as raw materials, and applied as the anode for sodium-ion batteries, achieving excellent electrochemical performance. By doping nitrogen and phosphorus elements, the adsorption capacity of the carbon material was enhanced, and the diffusion barrier of sodium ions was reduced, providing a new research direction for heteroatom doping and carbon material modification.

Oxygen Reduction Reaction Performance Boosting Effect of Nitrogen/Sulfur Co-Doped Graphene Supported Cobalt Phosphide Nanoelectrocatalyst: pH-Universal Electrocatalyst

Onur Karaman

Summary: The novel noble metal-free hybrid CoP@N,S-3D-GN showed excellent catalytic performance for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in both acidic and alkaline media, thanks to the synergistic effect of co-doped heteroatoms and metal phosphide nanoparticles. It offered four-electron pathways and demonstrated long-term stability, showcasing potential as an alternative to platinum-group metals for ORR. This work lays the groundwork for designing the next generation of renewable energy systems' electrocatalysts with intriguing features such as pH-universal catalytic activity, satisfactory durability, relatively low cost, and scalable production methods.

A novel electrochemical aflatoxin B1 immunosensor based on gold nanoparticle-decorated porous graphene nanoribbon and Ag nanocube-incorporated MoS2 nanosheets

Ceren Karaman et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel electrochemical AFB1 immunosensor was developed based on Ag nanocubes (AgNCs) and trigonal metallic MoS2 nanosheets with 1T phase (AgNCs/1T-MoS2) as the signal amplification and gold nanoparticles/porous graphene nanoribbon (AuNPs/PGNR) as the electrochemical sensor platform. The immunosensor exhibited good sensitivity with a low detection limit of 2.00 fg mL(-1). Physicochemical characterization techniques such as SEM, TEM, XPS, and XRD were used to describe the surface morphology and elemental composition of the immunosensor, while CV, DPV, and EIS techniques were used for evaluating its electrochemical performance.
