A retrospective quantitative implementation evaluation of Safer Opioid Prescribing, a Canadian continuing education program

Abhimanyu Sud et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the implementation outcomes of a national CHPE program, Safer Opioid Prescribing, demonstrating its successful implementation with a reach exceeding 1% of Ontario physician workforce. The program may serve as a model for using virtual CHPE to reach a critical mass of prescribers. Adapting evaluation methods from health policy and complex interventions, this study provides important guidance for assessing the effectiveness and impact of the program on opioid prescribing and utilization in the future.
