Different Approaches to Low-Wettable Materials for Freezing Environments: Design, Performance and Durability

Giulio Boveri et al.

Summary: Ice nucleation and accretion can cause various problems, and in this study a hydrophobic hybrid inorganic-organic coating design was presented to provide reduced, lasting wetting performance in cold environments. The surfaces developed showed stable hydrophobicity and low water contact angle hysteresis, with the ability to maintain wetting performance during freeze/thaw cycles being a key issue for further development.

A Universal Strategy for the Preparation of Dual Superlyophobic Surfaces in Oil-Water Systems

Mingming Wu et al.

Summary: A universal strategy was proposed to prepare dual superlyophobic surfaces in oil-water systems by delicately controlling surface chemistry, achieving the transformation from UWSOB to UOSHB. The mass ratios of superhydrophobic counterparts in the resulting mixed coatings were determined to be 0.3, 0.4, and 0.2 for APT, TiO2, and loess, respectively. The prepared superlyophobic separation mesh showed significant application potential in oil-water separation and other interfacial chemistry applications.
