Efficient and Full-Spectrum Photothermal Dehydrogenation of Ammonia Borane for Low-Temperature Release of Hydrogen

Hanlin Huang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a solar-driven strategy utilizing Ti2O3 as a full-spectrum light absorber for efficient hydrogen production from ammonia borane at low temperatures. Nano Ti2O3 particles exhibit high photothermal activation efficiency, with the assistance of CuCl2 promoter enabling successful release of 2.0 equivalents of hydrogen under 1.0 solar irradiation at 70 degrees C, showing potential applications in practical vehicles based on proton exchange membrane fuel cells.

Solubility thermodynamics of amine boranes in polar solvents

Matthew P. Confer et al.

Summary: Experimental determination of solubility and enthalpy of solution for various amine boranes in different solvents revealed differences in dissolution processes, with dimethyl sulfoxide solutions being the most exothermic. Increased methyl-substitution on the amine led to more endothermic processes. The study also validated the accuracy of density functional theory in predicting solubility of amine borane materials in polar solvents through comparison with experimental values.

Efficient hydrogen production from ammonia borane hydrolysis catalyzed by TiO2-supported RuCo catalysts

Jiapeng Zhang et al.

Summary: The hydrolysis of ammonia borane is a reliable method for hydrogen production, and TiO2-supported RuCo catalysts synthesized in this study exhibit excellent catalytic performance, especially in alkaline solutions. The Ru1Co9/TiO2 catalyst with a Ru/Co molar ratio of 1:9 shows low activation energy and high turnover frequency for the hydrolysis of ammonia borane. Anatase TiO2-supported catalysts demonstrate better catalytic activity compared to rutile TiO2-supported catalysts or mixtures of anatase and rutile TiO2-supported catalysts.

Yuzhen Ge et al.

Summary: This study reports the synthesis of highly dispersed CoNi bimetallic catalysts on alpha-MoC surface through the strong metal support interaction (SMSI) effect. The as-synthesized CoNi/alpha-MoC catalysts exhibited robust and synergistic performance for hydrogen production from hydrolysis of ammonia borane, with metal-normalized activity surpassing all previously reported noble metal-free catalysts and being four times higher than that of the commercial Pt/C catalyst.
