Analysis and design of an efficient handoff management strategy via velocity estimation in HetNets

Summary: In this paper, an efficient handoff decision strategy and a mobility state detection scheme for heterogeneous networks are proposed. Two maximum likelihood-based velocity estimators are presented, and a handover decision strategy based on sojourn time estimation is proposed. The numerical and simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in terms of accuracy, reduction in handovers, and improvement in mobility state detection.
