Does the first hour of continuous electroencephalography predict neonatal seizures?

Emma Macdonald-Laurs et al.

Summary: The first hour of cEEG in at-risk neonates can predict subsequent seizures, aiding in the identification of high-risk newborns.

Delay in Treatment of Neonatal Seizures: A Retrospective Cohort Study

Wievineke M. J. Apers et al.

Summary: Neonatal seizures are common and can cause further brain damage. This study aimed to investigate the time interval between confirmation of seizures through aEEG and administration of AEDs. The results showed that only 32.1% of seizures were treated within 1 hour, with clinical recognition or SDA-identified seizures more likely to receive timely treatment.

The ILAE classification of seizures and the epilepsies: Modification for seizures in the neonate. Position paper by the ILAE Task Force on Neonatal Seizures

Ronit M. Pressler et al.

Summary: Seizures in the neonatal period are often provoked with an acute cause and may only be evident on EEG. The classification of seizure types in neonates emphasizes the role of EEG in diagnosis and allows for a choice in the level of detail when classifying seizures in this age group.

Efficacy of lacosamide in neonatal-onset super-refractory status epilepticus: a case report

Veronica Bertozzi et al.

Summary: A previously healthy newborn developed super-refractory status epilepticus after Group B streptococcal meningoencephalitis. Administration of lacosamide as adjunctive therapy showed clear-cut improvement, suggesting further investigation for its efficacy and safety in neonatal-onset status epilepticus.

Safety of Early Discontinuation of Antiseizure Medication After Acute Symptomatic Neonatal Seizures

Hannah C. Glass et al.

Summary: In this comparative study, no significant difference was found in functional neurodevelopment or epilepsy risk at age 24 months among neonates whose ASM was discontinued vs maintained at hospital discharge after resolution of acute symptomatic seizures. These results suggest that discontinuation of ASM prior to hospital discharge may be suitable for most infants with acute symptomatic neonatal seizures.
