Characterization of organic aerosols in PM1 and their cytotoxicity in an urban roadside area in Hong Kong

Xinyi Niu et al.

Summary: This study found that organic compounds emitted from traffic and cooking are the main components of aerosols in urban areas, contributing to oxidative stress and inflammation. Cell tests revealed the critical role of organic compounds in cytotoxicity, affecting lactate dehydrogenase, reactive oxygen species, and interleukin-6 levels. Variations in organic groups showed that traffic and cooking emissions were dominant pollution sources.
