Molecular H2O promoted catalytic bicarbonate reduction with methanol into formate over Pd0.5Cu0.5/C under mild hydrothermal conditions

Xiaoguang Wang et al.

Summary: The direct reduction of bicarbonate to value-added organics under mild hydrothermal conditions using a Pd0.5Cu0.5/C catalyst demonstrated high efficiency and selectivity in formate production. Water molecules not only provided hydrogen for bicarbonate reduction, but also enhanced catalytic performance of Pd0.5Cu0.5/C for methanol activation as confirmed by DFT calculations and isotopic labelling studies.
