Trends in predictive biodegradation for sustainable mitigation of environmental pollutants: Recent progress and future outlook

Summary: In this paper, the feasibility of in-silico techniques for predictive bioremediation is discussed, highlighting their potential in dealing with emerging contaminants and recalcitrant compounds. The shortcomings of current bioremediation strategies are acknowledged, leading to the need for alternative methods to better mitigate hazardous pollutants. Various computational approaches and models have emerged to address the gaps in knowledge regarding biodegradation and transformed products, offering a promising avenue for future research and application in environmental remediation.

Valorizing lignin-like dyes and textile dyeing wastewater by a newly constructed lipid-producing and lignin modifying oleaginous yeast consortium valued for biodiesel and bioremediation

Summary: The development of a novel oleaginous consortium, OYC-Y.BC.SH, using three yeast cultures has shown great potential for lipid production, textile dye/effluent removal, and lignin valorization. The consortium exhibited high lipid productivity, lipase activity, and decolorization efficiency, making it valuable for biodiesel production and bioremediation of textile effluents. Toxicological studies also support the use of OYC-Y.BC.SH for detoxification of industrial dyeing effluents.
