Occurrence of antibiotics and antibiotic resistance genes in the Fuxian Lake and antibiotic source analysis based on principal component analysis-multiple linear regression model

Bin Zhao et al.

Summary: The study investigated the source contribution and correlations between antibiotics and ARGs in surface water of Fuxian Lake. Results showed that SMX and OFL were the dominant antibiotics and their corresponding ARGs posed medium risk to aquatic organisms, mainly originating from anthropogenic sources. The presence of ARGs in the lake was significantly lower than in inflowing rivers, suggesting inconsistent correlations between antibiotics and ARGs in the lake.

Indirect photodegradation of sulfadiazine in the presence of DOM: Effects of DOM components and main seawater constituents

Ying Bai et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of DOM composition on the indirect photolysis of SD, revealing that allochthonous humic-like components played a larger role in SD indirect photolysis. A significant relationship was found between the indirect photodegradation of SD and the decay of DOM fluorescent components, suggesting differences in SD indirect photolysis in various DOM solutions.

Multiple roles of dissolved organic matter released from decomposing rice straw at different times in organic pollutant photodegradation

Zhaogang Ren et al.

Summary: Returning rice straw releases a significant amount of dissolved organic matter (DOM) into aquatic croplands, impacting the photochemical behaviors of organic pollutants. The study found that the photosensitization of DOM towards DIU and E2 correlated with the production of PPRIs, while its influence on SMX photodegradation was opposite.

Silicate glass matrix@Cu2O/Cu2V2O7 p-n heterojunction for enhanced visible light photo-degradation of sulfamethoxazole: High charge separation and interfacial transfer

Amit Kumar et al.

Summary: A novel three dimensional silicate glass matrix coupled with Cu2O/Cu2V2O7 p-n heterojunction showed promising results in treating pharmaceutical contaminated water, achieving high removal rates of sulfamethoxazole. The use of natural sunlight and internal reflection significantly improved the photocatalytic efficiency, paving the way for future opportunities in degrading recalcitrant pharmaceutical pollutants.

Indirect photodegradation of sulfathiazole and sulfamerazine: Influence of the CDOM components and seawater factors (salinity, pH, nitrate and bicarbonate)

Xinyu Tang et al.

Summary: The presence of CDOM significantly increased the photodegradation rates of ST and SM in an indirect degradation process, following pseudofirst order kinetics. Analysis of CDOM revealed that exogenous components with high molecular weight and more aromatic groups played a crucial role in the photodegradation of ST and SM. Seawater factors also influenced the process by affecting the steady-state concentrations of reactive intermediates.
