Summary: Epitaxial growth on transition metal surfaces is an effective method for preparing large-area and high-quality graphene, but the strong interaction between graphene and metal substrates hinders its intrinsic excellent properties. By intercalating germanium oxide between graphene and metal substrates, graphene can be effectively decoupled from the substrate, forming a GeOx layer that acts as a tunneling barrier in vertical graphene/GeOx/Ir heterostructures.
