Brief communication: New radar constraints support presence of ice older than 1.5 Myr at Little Dome C

David A. Lilien et al.

Summary: The study near Dome C in East Antarctica aims to recover a continuous ice-core record spanning over a million years. The use of new high-resolution VHF radar has provided detailed stratigraphic information, confirming BELDC as the chosen drilling site where ice is considerably older than EDC. The ice-flow model suggests potential ages reaching 1.5 million years at 2500m, with sufficient resolution to resolve 41 kyr glacial cycles.
