Genome-wide association analyses of post-traumatic stress disorder and its symptom subdomains in the Million Veteran Program

Murray B. Stein et al.

Summary: In this study, genome-wide association analyses were conducted on over 250,000 participants of European and African ancestry using electronic health record-validated PTSD diagnosis. Significant loci were identified in both European case-control analyses and quantitative symptom analyses. The results validate the biological coherence of PTSD syndrome, highlight its relationship with comorbid anxiety and depressive disorders, and offer new considerations for treatment.
