Projection of upwelling-favorable winds in the Peruvian upwelling system under the RCP8.5 scenario using a high-resolution regional model

Adolfo Chamorro et al.

Summary: The Peruvian upwelling system is the most productive Eastern Boundary Upwelling System (EBUS) of the world ocean. Studies show weak changes in the mean upwelling-favorable winds, with summer winds slightly decreasing and winter winds slightly increasing, driven primarily by alongshore pressure gradient and sea surface temperature gradient. More research is needed to understand the impact of climate change on the Peruvian upwelling ecosystem through dynamical downscaling of coastal wind.

Deoxygenation in Marginal Seas of the Indian Ocean

S. Wajih A. Naqvi

Summary: This article discusses oxygen distributions and deoxygenation trends in the Persian Gulf, Red Sea, and Andaman Sea. Human activities impact the Persian Gulf, causing hypoxia in the central and southern regions, while the Red Sea is less affected. The northern Red Sea is experiencing ongoing deoxygenation, and warming in the NWIO marginal seas may intensify the Arabian Sea oxygen minimum zone. Additionally, there have been slight but significant decreases in oxygen content in the Andaman Sea over time.

Clarifying Water Column Respiration and Sedimentary Oxygen Respiration Under Oxygen Depletion Off the Changjiang Estuary and Adjacent East China Sea

Jun Zhou et al.

Summary: The study revealed that oxygen depletion in the near-bottom waters off the Changjiang Estuary is caused by water column respiration and sedimentary oxygen respiration, with contributions of 53% and 47% respectively to the total apparent oxygen utilization. Below the pycnocline, the contribution of water column respiration to the total AOU varied from 24% to 69%, while sedimentary oxygen respiration varied from 31% to 76%.
