Meaningful inhibitors of the lean journey: a systematic review and categorisation of over 20 years of literature

Summary: This paper provides a review of more than 20 years of literature to categorize the barriers to lean implementation into meaningful organizational categories. The findings suggest that there are six meaningful lean barriers, mainly related to behavioral, organizational, and technical aspects. The paper also proposes eight propositions contributing to knowledge and practice.

Exploring the role of lean managers within the Toyota supply network: evidence from a social media platform

Summary: This study investigates the effectiveness of lean managers in developing a highly skilled workforce trained in lean manufacturing skills, exploring how inter-firm executive relationships to different stakeholders moderate this relationship. The findings suggest that lean managers are associated with a significant increase in workers with lean manufacturing skills, with executive relationships to Toyota and its suppliers having both negative and positive moderating effects. However, executive relationships to organizations outside the supplier association do not have a significant moderating effect.

The findings suggest that the effects of this relationship on lean manufacturing implementation are different from expected, bridging a gap in the literature on this topic.
