Progress in ileal endogenous amino acid flow research in poultry

V. Ravindran

Summary: The progress in understanding the endogenous protein concept in the past century, especially the composition and importance of endogenous protein loss in the terminal ileum of poultry for estimating feed digestibility, has been reviewed. The distinction between basal and specific losses, the lack of direct measurement methods for specific endogenous losses, and the relevance of taurine as a component of endogenous protein flow in poultry were highlighted. Additionally, the features, applications, and challenges of available methodologies, along with practical difficulties in using published endogenous amino acid loss values for digestibility corrections, were briefly outlined.

Influence of feed form on the standardised ileal amino acid digestibility of common grains for broiler chickens

M. Barua et al.

Summary: The experiment aimed to determine the influence of feed form on the apparent ileal digestibility coefficients of dry matter, starch, and the standardized ileal digestibility coefficients of nitrogen and amino acids in different grain types. The results showed that pelleting significantly reduced the digestibility of dry matter in all tested grains, and the digestibility of starch was affected by both grain type and feed form.

Basal ileal endogenous amino acid flow in broiler chickens as influenced by age

M. Barua et al.

Summary: The study found that the basal ileal endogenous amino acid flow in male broilers decreases with age, leading to changes in the amino acid profile of endogenous protein. This may be attributed to variations in the contribution of endogenous sources with age.
