Transgenic chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) harbouring AtDREB1a are physiologically better adapted to water deficit

Alok Das et al.

Summary: Transgenic chickpea lines carrying stress-inducible AtDREB1a gene exhibited improved drought tolerance with higher relative water content, longer chlorophyll retention capacity, and enhanced osmotic adjustment under severe drought stress. These transgenic lines also showed higher photosynthetic efficiency and water use efficiency, resulting in higher seed yield compared to control under progressively drier conditions. The study concludes that the selected transgenic chickpea event, based on precise phenotyping, is a valuable resource for breeding programs aimed at enhancing drought tolerance in chickpea.

Co-overexpression of AtDREB1A and BcZAT12 increases drought tolerance and fruit production in double transgenic tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) plants

Ram Krishna et al.

Summary: This study aimed to enhance drought tolerance and yield potential in transgenic tomato plants by co-overexpressing the AtDREB1A and BcZAT12 genes, resulting in improved physiological indexes and growth attributes under water deficit conditions. The findings provide a basis for genetic engineering in plants through a multigenic transgenic approach to tackle various biotic and abiotic stresses.

Controlled Over-Expression of AtDREB1A Enhances Tolerance against Drought and Salinity in Rice

Raveendran Muthurajan et al.

Summary: Engineering transcription factors (TF) show promise in enhancing abiotic stress tolerance in plants, as demonstrated by the study on genetically modified rice variety ADT 43 in South India. The transgenic lines of ADT 43 exhibited increased tolerance to drought and salinity, along with better growth performance and yield retention.
