Combined protective effects of icariin and selenomethionine on novel chronic tubulointerstitial nephropathy models in vivo and in vitro

Lili Hou et al.

Summary: Chronic tubulointerstitial nephropathy (CTIN) is a common kidney disease with limited treatment options. This study investigated the combined nephroprotection of Icariin (ICA) and Selenomethionine (SeMet) on CTIN and found that their combination could protect against CTIN by blocking TLR4/NF kappa B pathway activation. This research provides novel insights for exploring adjuvant therapeutic approaches.

FBS-Derived Exosomes as a Natural Nano-Scale Carrier for Icariin Promote Osteoblast Proliferation

Ming Dong et al.

Summary: Icariin, a drug with low solubility and poor bioavailability, can be effectively delivered in exosomes such as Fetal bovine serum (FBS) exosomes. The FBS exosomes loaded with Icariin promote osteoblast proliferation and bone regeneration more effectively than Icariin alone, showing potential as a new nano scale drug formulation for diseases associated with bone loss.

Mitochondrial ROS promote mitochondrial dysfunction and inflammation in ischemic acute kidney injury by disrupting TFAM-mediated mtDNA maintenance

Meng Zhao et al.

Summary: Reducing mtROS levels attenuated renal dysfunction, mitochondrial damage, and inflammation in IRI-AKI mice. The loss of TFAM can impact mtDNA maintenance, mitochondrial energy metabolism, and cytokine release. Insights into the role of mtROS and TFAM in IRI-AKI provide potential therapeutic targets for renal repair.
