Interleukin-6-mediated resistance to immunotherapy is linked to impaired myeloid cell function

Elham Beyranvand Nejad et al.

Summary: Elevated serum levels of IL-6 are associated with poor prognosis and chemotherapy resistance in various cancers, with unknown underlying mechanisms. This study demonstrated that tumor-produced IL-6 confers resistance to cisplatin and therapeutic vaccination, affecting the function of myeloid cells. However, combination therapies can overcome IL-6-mediated resistance, providing direction for more effective cancer treatments.

Anti-tumor activity of resveratrol against gastric cancer: a review of recent advances with an emphasis on molecular pathways

Milad Ashrafizadeh et al.

Summary: Despite advancements in diagnostic tools and anti-tumor drugs, the survival time of gastric cancer patients has not significantly increased. Studies have shown that signaling pathways such as Wnt, Nrf2, MAPK, and PI3K/Akt are involved in GC invasion, with long non-coding RNAs and microRNAs playing a role in GC malignancy. Resveratrol exhibits high anti-tumor activity and has the potential to target various signaling pathways to induce apoptotic cell death and inhibit migration and metastasis of GC cells.

Biologic agents and small-molecule inhibitors in systemic autoimmune conditions: an update

Diana Prieto-Pena et al.

Summary: The understanding of the pathophysiology of rheumatic diseases has led to the development of biologic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (bDMARDs) and targeted synthetic DMARDs (tsDMARDs) which have revolutionized the treatment of inflammatory conditions. Different agents are effective for controlling specific rheumatic diseases based on the cytokine involved in the inflammatory process. Concerns with these drugs include a higher risk of infections, the need for blood tests and screening prior to therapy, adherence to immunization programs, and consideration of comorbidities when selecting treatment. Limited data is available on the use of these drugs during pregnancy, but certain treatments appear to be safe. Biosimilars offer a cost-effective option for treating a larger number of patients.
