Regulation of ferroptosis by bioactive phytochemicals: Implications for medical nutritional therapy

Summary: Ferroptosis, a regulated cell death dependent on iron and lipotoxicity, is implicated in various diseases like cancer and neurodegeneration. Natural compounds such as saponins, flavonoids and isothiocyanates have the potential to modulate ferroptosis and may be used as therapeutic agents. Understanding the molecular mechanisms and disease relevance of ferroptosis, along with exploring the clinical applications of natural phytochemicals, can provide insights for future drug development in ferroptosis-related diseases.
