The relationship between anthocyanin accumulation and photoprotection in young leaves of two dominant tree species in subtropical forests in different seasons

Zheng-Chao Yu et al.

Summary: Experimental evidence suggests that there are differences in anthocyanin accumulation and photoprotective effects in plants in different seasons. Leaves of Castanopsis chinensis and Acmena acuminatissima showed contrasting colors in different seasons. Leaves without anthocyanin accumulation exhibited higher levels of flavonoids and phenolics, as well as better antioxidant capacity, after high-light treatment. Additionally, the activities of antioxidative enzymes were significantly higher in winter compared to summer.

Perception and Signaling of Ultraviolet-B Radiation in Plants

Roman Podolec et al.

Summary: UV-B radiation is a segment of sunlight perceived by plants through the UVR8 photoreceptor. Monomeric UVR8 inhibits COP1's E3 ubiquitin ligase activity and destabilizes transcription factors. UVR8 signaling mechanisms initiate gene expression changes leading to UV-B-induced photomorphogenesis and acclimation.

Effects of UV-A radiation on organ-specific accumulation and gene expression of isoflavones and flavonols in soybean sprout

You Jin Lim et al.

Summary: The study found that UV-A radiation specifically stimulates the production of isoflavones in the roots of soybean sprouts, while non-UV-A treated roots mainly contain daidzein types. Kaempferol glycosides are mainly increased in aerial organs, especially in cotyledons, rather than in roots under UV-A radiation. This demonstrates the upregulation of the naringenin pathway in roots synthesizing genistin and kaempferol in response to UV-A.

A Review of Strawberry Photobiology and Fruit Flavonoids in Controlled Environments

Rachael Warner et al.

Summary: Rapid technology development in controlled environment plant production, especially with the use of LED technology, has allowed growers to manipulate strawberry growth and development by adjusting light intensity and spectral composition. This manipulation can impact fruit quality and antioxidant properties through changes in secondary metabolism. Further research is needed to fully understand the effects of different light spectra on strawberries and to help growers maximize yield and adapt to consumer preferences.
