Analyzing the geomagnetic axial dipole field moment over the historical period from new archeointensity results at Bukhara (Uzbekistan, Central Asia)

Marie Troyano et al.

Summary: Direct measurements of Earth's magnetic field intensity and direction have been available since the mid-19th century, allowing accurate determination of its variations. This study focuses on archeomagnetic intensity data from baked clay bricks in Central Asia to analyze the axial dipole behavior during the late 18th century, showing a relative minimum in dipole magnitude. The reliability of the gufm1 model is crucial for interpretation, as the axial dipole evolution appears non-linear.

Archeomagnetic intensity variations during the era of geomagnetic spikes in the Levant

Philip W. Livermore et al.

Summary: Archeomagnetic analyses in the Near-East during the first millennium BCE reveal six spikes in intensity variation lasting between 30 and 100 years, with a high dependency on specific treatments of data at the fragment level. Increasing the error budget results in a spikeless model that closely resembles the SHAWQ-Iron Age global model.

SCHA.DIF.4k: 4,000 Years of Paleomagnetic Reconstruction for Europe and Its Application for Dating

F. Javier Pavon-Carrasco et al.

Summary: This study presents an updated regional archaeomagnetic model, SCHA.DIF.4k, for the European continent and adjacent areas, based on the increased paleomagnetic data since the publication of the previous model in 2009. The new model allows for better definition of the paleomagnetic field over Europe and the generation of new paleosecular variation curves for archaeomagnetic dating purposes. Results show that the dating precision over the last 4 kyr depends on data uncertainties, temporal data distribution, and the behavior of the geomagnetic field itself, with the use of the full vector geomagnetic field providing more precise archaeomagnetic dating results.
