Report on G4-Med, a Geant4 benchmarking system for medical physics applications developed by the Geant4 Medical Simulation Benchmarking Group

P. Arce et al.

Summary: Geant4 is a widely used Monte Carlo code in medical physics with various applications, and it is essential to have a system for benchmarking and regression testing. G4-Med was developed to address these needs and currently includes 18 tests covering a range of physics processes and models typical in medical physics applications. Results from benchmarking Geant4 10.5 against reference data show good agreement for electromagnetic physics constructor and adequate description for hadron therapy with the QGSP_BIC_HP physics list. Future work should focus on expanding benchmarking to other physical quantities and application scenarios in medical physics.

Assessment of DNA damage with an adapted independent reaction time approach implemented in Geant4-DNA for the simulation of diffusion-controlled reactions between radio-induced reactive species and a chromatin fiber

Hoang Ngoc Tran et al.

Summary: This study investigates simulating indirect damage caused by free radical attacks on biological molecules resulting from ionizing radiation. A new approach based on the independent pair approximation is proposed for the chemical stage of Geant4-DNA, which shows a significant improvement in computation time and consistency in biological damage simulation compared to the current method.

Boronated Condensed DNA as a Heterochromatic Radiation Target Model

Christopher C. Perry et al.

Summary: The study explored the interaction between a new BPA derivative peptide and DNA, which resulted in DNA condensation and high resistance to nucleases and radiation. By using track structure simulations, it was found that the peptide could effectively protect DNA from single strand breaks, providing a powerful approach to characterize DNA damage caused by high-LET radiation associated with boron neutron capture.

Geant4-DNA simulation of the pre-chemical stage of water radiolysis and its impact on initial radiochemical yields

Wook-Geun Shin et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the impact of the pre-chemical stage on water radiolysis simulation using the Geant4-DNA toolkit, finding that the new pre-chemical models provide better agreement with literature data, especially for 'OH radicals and H2O2. The revised chemistry constructor G4EmDNAChemistry_option3 is now available in Geant4-DNA version 10.7.
