Layer-by-Layer Processed Ternary Organic Photovoltaics with Efficiency over 18%

Lingling Zhan et al.

Summary: This study proposes and demonstrates a method to optimize the morphology of the active layer in organic photovoltaic devices by combining the layer-by-layer (LbL) procedure and the ternary strategy. By adding an asymmetric electron acceptor to the binary donor:acceptor host, a vertical phase distribution is formed, leading to improved efficiency in OPV devices.

High-Performance Organic Photovoltaics Incorporating an Active Layer with a Few Nanometer-Thick Third-Component Layer on a Binary Blend Layer

Hao-Wen Cheng et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a universal approach for constructing a new bilayer device architecture in OPV systems, utilizing a few-nanometer-thick third-component layer on a bulk-heterojunction binary blend layer. The enhancement in power conversion efficiency achieved through the layered third-component structure shows great promise for achieving high-performance OPVs.

Sequential Deposition of Donor and Acceptor Provides High-Performance Semitransparent Organic Photovoltaics Having a Pseudo p-i-n Active Layer Structure

Hao-Cheng Wang et al.

Summary: A sequential deposition strategy is proposed for achieving semitransparent organic photovoltaics (ST-OPVs) with high efficiency and high transparency. Research shows that the SD devices have higher power conversion efficiency and visible light transmittance values compared to BHJ devices at a given active layer thickness. Therefore, the SD strategy provides a new approach for realizing ST-OPVs with both high efficiency and high transparency.

High-Performance Organic Solar Cells Featuring Double Bulk Heterojunction Structures with Vertical-Gradient Selenium Heterocyclic Nonfullerene Acceptor Concentrations

Hao-Wen Cheng et al.

Summary: This study focused on preparing organic photovoltaics (OPVs) with double bulk heterojunction (BHJ) structures, incorporating two small-molecule acceptors with concentration gradients to enhance charge transportation and power conversion efficiencies. The results showed that devices with the double-BHJ structure had higher PCEs compared to those with single-BHJ structures, highlighting the effectiveness of combining two BHJ structures with a concentration gradient of small-molecule acceptors for improving OPV performance.
