Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Recent Advances in Improved Anticancer Efficacies of Camptothecin Nano-Formulations: A Systematic Review

Maryam Ghanbari-Movahed et al.

Summary: Camptothecin (CPT), a natural plant alkaloid, demonstrates potent antitumor activities by targeting intracellular topoisomerase I but faces limitations due to lactone ring instability and water insolubility. Studies indicate that nanoparticle formulations of CPT exhibit higher antitumor activity than free CPT, suggesting a more efficient approach for cancer treatment. Overall, CPT nano-formulations show promise as a potent candidate for cancer therapy and support the future clinical application of natural antitumor agents.

Allicin Could Potentially Alleviate Oral Cancer Pain by Inhibiting Pain Mediators TNF-alpha, IL-8, and Endothelin

Abdulwahab Alamir et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of allicin on pain mediators secreted by oral cancer cells in vitro. Results showed that allicin inhibited the gene and protein expression of TNF-alpha, IL-8, and endothelin in both cancer cells and cancer stem cells. Allicin is likely to be a promising treatment in alleviating pain and inflammation levels in oral squamous cell carcinomas.
