Summary: This study using the National Surgical Quality Improvement database found that African American children had a higher risk of failure to rescue after unplanned reoperation, especially among those who required early reoperation. Time to mortality following unplanned reoperation was shorter for African American children compared to their White counterparts. Race should be considered in interventions to optimize unplanned reoperation outcomes in children.
