Continuous hydrothermal flow synthesis of S-functionalised carbon quantum dots for enhanced oil recovery

Ioan-Alexandru Baragau et al.

Summary: There is currently a lack of research and application of carbon-based nanomaterials for enhanced oil recovery. The use of sulfur-functionalized carbon quantum dots (S-CQDs) can significantly improve oil recovery rates in oil fields. S-CQDs exhibit excellent colloidal stability, low surface retention, and small particle size, which can effectively enhance oil recovery efficiency.

Disclosing the emissive surface traps in green-emitting carbon nanodots

Alice Sciortino et al.

Summary: This study investigates the photoluminescence of carbon dots and identifies surface carboxylic moieties as key to their fluorescence. Through various experimental and analytical methods, it is confirmed that the visible-light transitions of carbon dots are caused by electron transfer from nitrogen atoms in the core to specific charge trap states localized on -COOH surface groups.

3D printed ABS/paraffin hybrid rocket fuels with carbon dots for superior combustion performance

Cagri Oztan et al.

Summary: The research investigated the combustion performance of a novel composite hybrid rocket fuel grain composed of ABS and paraffin with the incorporation of gel-like carbon dots (CDs). The results showed that ABS/CD-loaded paraffin fuel grains exhibited higher combustion efficiency and combustion rate compared to ABS/pure paraffin fuel grains, despite compromising on mechanical properties. The enhancement in combustion characteristics of CD-loaded fuel grains was attributed to lower viscosity, higher particle entrainment, specific surface area, and catalytic activity.
