Photonic materials derived from the [closo-B10H10]2- anion: tuning photophysical properties in [closo-B10H8-1-X-10-(4-Y-NC5H5)]-

Summary: The study investigated the effects of substituents on the photophysical properties of derivatives of [closo-B10H10](2-), revealing the significant impact of the B(10) substituent on the HOMO and the C(4) substituent on the LUMO, allowing for variation of charge transfer band energy and emission energy. Additionally, solvent effects on the photophysical properties were observed, showing a substantial degree of control over these properties through a combination of substituent and solvent effects.
