Optical bistability in reflection of the laser pulse in a 1D photonic crystal doped with four-level InGaN/GaN quantum dots

Jalil Shiri et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the optical properties of 1D photonic crystal doped with four-level InGaN/GaN quantum dots, emphasizing the dependency of transient and steady-state behavior on coherent coupling fields. It was found that the transient absorption-dispersion spectra of 1DPC can be adjusted by choosing controllable parameters properly, and the transmitted and reflected light pulses at long wavelength can be tuned by controlling the Rabi frequencies of applied light. The research also explored the effect of relative phase between applied fields on light propagation and found the all-optical switching time required for different modes of light propagation.

Square-root non-Bloch topological insulators in non- Hermitian ring resonators

Zekun Lin et al.

Summary: The study investigated the topological skin effect in a ring resonator array which can be mapped into the square root of a Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model with non-Hermitian asymmetric coupling. The square-root topological insulator inherits properties from its parent Hamiltonian, supports multiple topological edge modes, and doubles the number of band gaps compared to the original Hamiltonian. The study provides a promising approach to investigate the skin effect using ring resonators.

Low threshold optical bistability based on coupled graphene Tamm states

Yuexiang Wu et al.

Summary: The numerical investigation of optical bistability based on ADGD structure in terahertz frequencies reveals that the threshold can be significantly reduced due to the coupling between Tamm states on both sides of graphene, providing potential for further threshold reduction by decreasing graphene's Fermi energy.

Development of Silicon-Embedded Supercapacitors Utilizing Atomic Layer Deposition and Plasma-Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition for Functionalization of Carbon Nanotube Electrodes

Ravi Konjeti et al.

Summary: Supercapacitors utilizing carbon nanotube electrodes can benefit from functionalization and graphenation processes to enhance charge densities and specific energy, as well as from the use of room-temperature ionic liquids to improve performance. Functionalization through atomic layer deposition offers pseudocapacitive energy storage mechanisms, while graphenation increases electrode surface area. These improvements in device performance were demonstrated through specific energy values of supercapacitors with different types of functionalizations.

Optical bistability in aperiodic multilayer composed of graphene and Thue-Morse lattices

Hao Ni et al.

Summary: The theoretical study explores optical bistability of transmitted light in complex multilayers composed of graphene and Thue-Morse dielectric lattices. Low threshold optical bistability is achieved due to the enhancement of graphene nonlinearity with strong electric field localization. Simulations demonstrate that thresholds and intervals between them can be flexibly modulated by graphene's chemical potential, incident wavelengths, and angles, offering a candidate for all-optical switches.
