This article provides a brief overview of the development of plasmonic-based optical fiber analyte sensors over the last decade, focusing on the research on propagating surface plasmon resonance and localized surface plasmon resonance, as well as the recent advancements in nano-optics technology. The survey aims to offer valuable insights to researchers and students in understanding the trends and practical utility of optical fiber plasmonic sensors.
This article contains a brief overview of plasmonic-based optical fiber analyte sensor's development over the last ten years. Since detection and monitoring of chemical, physical and biological parameters are highly reliant on optical fiber sensing technology due to numerous advantages. Here we outlined the cumulative introduction, past experimental research work on propagating surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) module, then ends with some conclusions and prospects. The recent progress in nano-optics has developed susceptible and label-free optical devices using SPR/LSPR techniques of the metal films and nanostructures. The survey focuses on the significant contribution of applications-based fiber optic plasmonic sensors published in the last decade. We hope this review might provide rigorous and organized literature to researchers/ students for the basic understanding, trends, and practical utility of optical fiber plasmonic sensors.
