This article investigates an effect which was found out in downward flow of liquid metal (LM) in vertical rectangular duct in coplanar magnetic field (MF). The experiments have been performed on facility which located in JIHT. This facility is magneto hydrodynamic (MHD) mercury close-loop. The temperature field measurements have been performed at one side heating conditions in coplanar magnetic field. The averaged temperature fields, wall temperature distributions and statistical characteristics of temperature fluctuation have been obtained. The strong influence of counter thermo-gravitational convection (TGC) on average and fluctuation parameters has been observed. The influence of TGC in magnetic field leads to developing of temperature low-frequency fluctuations with high magnitude. The temperature fluctuation amplitude in a wide range of operating conditions is higher than turbulence level. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
