Systematic review and network meta-analysis assess the comparative efficacy and safety of transsphenoidal surgery for pituitary tumor

Wei Dai et al.

Summary: This study quantitatively synthesized the efficacy and safety of three common surgical approaches for pituitary tumors, and found that while there was no significant difference in efficacy among ETES, STMS, and ETMS, there were differences in safety. The results indicated that endoscopic surgery is recommended as the first choice for treating pituitary tumors due to its superior safety outcomes.

Risk factors for wound-related complications after microvascular decompression

Elizabeth N. Alford et al.

Summary: Preoperative anemia and current tobacco use were identified as significant risk factors for wound-related complications following retrosigmoid craniotomy for microvascular decompression, while the use of synthetic bone substitute for cranioplasty was associated with significantly lower rates of complications. Additionally, higher BMI, longer operative duration, and prior radiosurgery may increase the risk of wound-related complications.
