Coffee effectively attenuates impaired attention in ADORA2A C/C-allele carriers during chronic sleep restriction

Diego M. Baur et al.

Summary: In individuals genetically sensitive to caffeine, regular coffee consumption was found to counteract the negative effects of chronic sleep restriction on vigilance and attention. While both groups experienced increased subjective sleepiness with consecutive sleep restriction days, regular coffee showed benefits in sustained attention, selective attention, and executive control compared to decaffeinated coffee. These benefits were transient and disappeared after a recovery night and cessation of coffee administration.
