Urinary proteome profiling for stratifying patients with familial Parkinson's disease

Sebastian Virreira Winter et al.

Summary: The article presents a mass spectrometry-based proteomic workflow for urinary proteome profiling as a valuable strategy for biomarker discovery and patient stratification in Parkinson's disease (PD). The study found significant differences in urinary proteome between PD patients and healthy controls, as well as between LRRK2 G2019S carriers and non-carriers, with lysosomal dysregulation in LRRK2 G2019S mutation carriers. When combined with machine learning, the urinary proteome data alone could effectively classify mutation status and disease manifestation in PD patients.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Patterns of Clinical Progression in Radiorecurrent High-risk Prostate Cancer

Rebecca G. Philipson et al.

Summary: Radiorecurrent high-risk prostate cancer is characterized by an aggressive natural history, with early clinical evidence of distant metastases after biochemical recurrence. Approximately 30% of patients ultimately die from prostate cancer, highlighting the importance of upfront risk assessment and prompt systemic evaluation upon recurrence.

An integrated landscape of protein expression in human cancer

Andrew F. Jarnuczak et al.

Summary: Utilizing 11 proteomics datasets from the PRIDE database, a reference expression map was constructed for 191 cancer cell lines and 246 clinical tumor samples, revealing unique peptides in tumor samples and highlighting the correlation between baseline expression in cell lines and tumors. Integration of proteomics and transcriptomics data showed a median correlation of 0.58 across cell lines, indicating that mRNA levels are often a poor predictor of changes in protein abundance. This study represents the first meta-analysis focusing on cancer-related public proteomics datasets, emphasizing the shortcomings and limitations of such studies.

Outcomes of Serial Multiparametric Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Subsequent Biopsy in Men with Low-risk Prostate Cancer Managed with Active Surveillance

Walter Hsiang et al.

Summary: The study found that progression on serial mpMRI is not associated with pathological upgrade in men with GG1 PCa on active surveillance. However, a high initial PI-RADS score on mpMRI is predictive of subsequent pathological progression. Both systematic and fusion biopsies are necessary to monitor progression during active surveillance.
