Effects of upper mantle structure beneath Alaska on core-sensitive seismic wave absolute and differential measurements: Implications for estimates of inner core anisotropy

Summary: Inner core anisotropy is often studied using differential travel times to eliminate contamination by crust and upper mantle structure. Measurements reveal that the inner core is anisotropic, with faster travel along polar paths. Including data from South Sandwich Islands to Alaska increases estimates of average global inner core anisotropy strength. Corrections for upper mantle structures and higher resolution tomographic models are needed for more accurate constraints on inner core anisotropy in the future.
